!±8± Optimizing Your Crib - Using a Mesh Crib Tent

A mesh crib tent has two purposes: one, it is used to prevent babies from falling off their cribs, and two, it is used to prevent them from getting insect bites. Made from nylon mesh, a mesh crib tent covers the top of a crib entirely, enveloping it in a dome-like cover. Depending on the tent design, additional mesh material may be included to cover the sides of a crib for more protection.

Types of mesh crib tents

As with most things, a mesh crib tent also comes in different types to address different needs. The types available include standard mesh crib tents and their fancier versions. With dome-like, see-through tents, standard mesh crib tents are secured over your baby's crib using loop straps and Velcro panels. On one side, the tent may open up with a nylon zipper. The same is also true with fancier ones. In addition, though, fancy mesh crib tents are designed with expanded nets that reach all the way to the sides of the crib, covering even the gaps between the slats on the side.

Choosing mesh crib tents: what to do

While mesh crib tents will only be used inside your baby's bedroom generally, it still helps to find one that easily collapses, making it very simple and easy for you to dismantle it and put it away for storage. Should you be traveling, a crib tent that is easily taken down is very convenient since you get around to protecting your baby to getting back on the go in a matter of minutes. Aside from convenience, make sure that your crib tent is appropriate for your child's age. Crib tents are usually only bought for children three years old and below since those older may not be using cribs anymore. If you have an older child, it might be better to look for other mesh tent options.
